Gargoyle at Saint Severin Paris France

This is a wonderful church in the Latin Quarter of Paris. I managed to catch the light just right for this pic and then later produced a high dynamic range image via photoshop to give it a more sinister feel.

Hardwick Hall

Hardwick Hall, originally uploaded by fotofacade.

Hardwick Hall by Robert Smythson late C16th in Derbyshire - this is such a remarkable example of English Renaissance architecture - it works purely because of its sheer mass. Walking around the building it's shape and volume changes with remarkable poise and beauty

An article I wrote and photographed for Forum Magazine for the Manchester Civic Society (Summer 2004)

Long Street Methodist is a beautiful building by a remarkable architect called Edgar Wood who was an important part of the Art and Craft's movement.

Saint Mary Bishophill Junior York

Twin bell openings with single shaft and through stone are of the late Saxon North Country Type as at Kirk Hammerton

The tower represents the oldest piece of ecclesiastical architecture in York.

Built in the late C11th the tower contains fragments of Anglian and Anglo Scandinavian funerary sculpture

Just out is an article from The Society for the Protection of Ancient Building's Cornerstone Magazine on Dry Stone Walling and the late Raven Frankland who was a remarkable practictioner of this art.

I was commissioned to photograph his work and 4 images were included in the article including the two above.

Treasurers House, York

The Treasurer's House is owned by the National Trust and can be visited. It is a remarkable house which has grown organically over the last 600 years. The garden is compact but equally as beautiful with a fantastic panoramic view of the Minster and Chapter House.

The house has medieval origins and still has a medieval footprint of central range, private rooms (in the left crosswing) and service rooms (in the right crosswing). The interior is opulent and reflects a rich past with a historic layering of features and additions.

I'm lucky enough to be a National Trust Agency photographer and this means that I get the chance to go to beautiful houses like this one and photograph them. But, it always needs a little research.... (click on the pic to see a larger version) - I always find it a revealing exercise to draw a building before photographing it - this way you absorb the details and it really does come out in your photography
