Manchester's Town Hall extension (at the back - 1934-8) and Public Library (foreground 1930-4) both by E Vincent Harris. The Town Hall extension is a superb structure often overshadowed by Waterhouses Victorian building. It was designed to harmonise the Gothic of the Town Hall with the Classicism of the Library. It works well.

Spent a wonderful morning on Saturday, with my wife, Charlotte by my side in absolute heaven photographing this remarkably unique church by George Pace.
Situated in Wythenshawe on the outskirts of Manchester the William Temple Memorial Church was designed as a result of two whole years of collaboration with the vicar et al. The church was designed from the ground up to reflect contemporary liturgical arrangements.

I'm struck by the stark beauty of the facade of the Institute. Built by Jean Nouvel
The thumbnail is better than the full pic - I started off in Copic's and then ran out of ink - but had just got into the zone - and had to finish it - so I pulled out my ancient watercolours and had a go with them. I am not pleased with the end result. Changing over mediums is like changing over from driving a truck to driving a car - you have to get used to it.
However, I always learn a lot from sketching and painting architecture - it helps feed my understanding and ultimately better informs my photography
I thought I'd try a rough copic sketch of Hardwick Hall in my Moleskine
The Hall is fantastic and one of my favourites - its mass and shape rise from the ground like a gallant ship. Best of Elizabethan Northern Renaissance Architecture.
