Saint Mary Studley Royal, Yorkshire
I love this photo because it has so many different aspects. Firstly it works for me just as a photo - the pattern and decoration is beautiful in this church. Secondly it is an unusual angle and it takes time to get to grips with it - I like that. Thirdly it conveys the concept of the liturgical hierarchy of the building - from right to left (west to east) there is a change from simplicity (the nave) through to controlled excitement (the Chancel choir) and then unadulterated exuberance (the sanctuary).
Definitely one of the buildings you need to see before you die....

Rood Screen
I went to Holy Trinity, Skipton last week and spent a wonderful day photographing the 'top end' of the church including the Rood Screen.
Made in the early C16th the angel carvings originally were located in front of the uprights which held the Rood Loft (a sort of minstrel's gallery) above the screen (now removed).

Genius Loci
Here is a selection of enhanced images of architecture. Every building has a Genius Loci. Each building communicates to us via its style, form and function. This is what I see.
Many of these images have been successful in creating renewed interest in buildings and our historic environment.

Carre Aux Herbes
On a recent visit, I was a little disappointed with the palace of Versailles near Paris, France. But maybe I didn't visit at the right time - too many people. Subseqently, I spent a little time in the town which although foreshadowed by it's mighty neighbour is a little gem of a place in terms of the quality of its architecture. The image above was taken at the market and is the subject of my latest sale to a Travel Brochure.

The Rose Window
Over the Christmas period I went over to Beverley and was lucky enough to get up into the roof of the South and North Transept of Beverley Minster. Built in the C13th, it was remarkable to see the other unadorned side of the building, including some original timbers with carpenters marks on them. This photo is behind the Rose Window on the South Transept.
