Want some sound advice on how to take photo's of architecture? Are you a budding architectural photographer? Are you interested in architecture and would like to learn more?
Taken with a Canon 5D, manfrotto tripod with geared head, sigma lens.
Wow - proud to say that my architectural photography blog comes up as no1 (apart from the placed adds) out of 5,710,000 results on Google!
This is part of the original oak staircase (1590's) leading up to the top of the north east tower at Hardwick. The water pump is C20th ;-). Hardwick Hall is in Derbyshire UK and is open to the public - it is a unique example of English Renaissance architecture by the architect Robert Smythson.
Upon a recent visit to Hardwick Hall I had the pleasure of joining some stone masons hard at work completing the refurbishment of the south east tower. Here is a scroll detail which belongs to the Elizabethan strapwork on the tower. They were busy washing down the lime mortar pointing to give it a smooth sheen.
Here is a rare view from the roof of Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire. Dominated by the stone hewn Arms of Bess, Countess of Shrewsbury on the new Hall built in the 1590's. The ruins of Hardwick Old Hall in the distance perform a romantic interlude as you gaze into the distance....... ;-)
Sunlight House heralded the arrival of the modern movement in the town. It was the highest commercial building in Manchester when it was built in 1932 by Joseph Sunlight - the first building to be higher than the Town Hall.
Has a swimming pool in the basement which was opened by Douglas Fairbanks

Similar in style and outlook and yet these buildings were built in separate centuries. On the left is Manchester House and on the right is the new Civil Justice Centre
t's my birthday today - so I thought I'd look for an image with candles in it and this was the only one I could find!
I love this image it is the altar at the William Temple Memorial Church, Wythensawe by architect George Pace
Must go now for some cake....
Chapel, William Temple Memorial Church Wythenshawe, UK - George Pace (1960 -1966)
Have taken this shot a few times but never with the light coming from this angle (from the west). An oft taken shot by many Manchester photographers
Can't remember what this bits called between the library (right) and Town Hall extension (left) both by E Vincent Harris. Seem to be fixated with this area recently
My Son Sam at Tadao Ando' s screen at Piccadilly Manchester UK
Sam had his AS Graphics exam yesterday (5 hours) so I took him out to town for a meander and something to eat. Saw the "Do Not Refreeze" photographic exhibition at the Cornerhouse, had a smoothie at The Grill in the Alley, main course at Pesto's, and dessert at Cafe Rouge
I just love using the zoom lens to bring architectural subjects closer together. Here we have the curved profile of the Victorian G Mex roof and the angular profile and straight lines of the recently completed Hilton/ Beetham tower, Manchester UK.
